With its rich, buttery-texture and bold flavour, CO-OP GOLD PURE® Wild Sockeye Salmon is a surefire way to impress your dinner guests. It tastes so fresh, you could even tell your guests you caught it yourself — we won’t tell!
Co-op Gold Pure Wild Sockeye Salmon is not only a high-quality product, but Odetta Enterprises Ltd. also fishes it in a sustainable manner. The fishery is based in British Columbia, and we chose to work with them because of their commitment to sustainability.

They’re also a Canadian company that loves wild salmon as much as we do! It makes it easy to work together. “We very much like working with Co-op, because their team appreciates high-quality, sustainable products,” said Ted Williams of Odetta Enterprises. “And they will work with us to provide those products to their customers.”
“We have a great working relationship with Odetta Enterprises,” said Jessica Niekamp with Federated Co-operatives Limited, the wholesaler supplying local Co-op Food Stores in Western Canada. “They are knowledgeable, and that’s something we value very much. We can confidently provide our customers with a selection of high-quality, sustainably-sourced salmon products.”

Committed to sustainability
Co-op Gold Pure Wild Sockeye Salmon products are certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), thanks to the sustainability practices of Odetta Enterprises. According to Williams, the company was among the first in the world to receive Council approval. The MSC, an independent, non-profit organization, offers its seal of approval to wild fish and seafood caught in a sustainable manner from well-managed fisheries.
Willams said that although the products are packaged and processed in British Columbia, the fish are caught in Alaskan waters. “The sustainable yield principle is in the state’s constitution,” he explained. Sustainable yield refers to the number of fish that can be caught without reducing the stock’s base.
Because of Odetta Enterprises’ commitment to sustainability and quality, Co-op has expanded its offering of products to include wild sockeye salmon fillets, smoked sliced sockeye salmon, wild Pacific chum, gravlax, and our newest item, a salmon burger.
From sea to spoon (or fork)
Cooking seafood—especially salmon—is one of the best things you can do in a kitchen. It’s tasty, healthy and quick to prepare. But if you don’t have top-quality fish, you’re doing yourself a disservice.
Williams had one important piece of advice for cooking sockeye salmon: “Barbecue, sauté, bake... You can't really go wrong with wild salmon. Just don't overcook it!”
Try a light, healthy option like our Salmon with Arugula Citrus Salad — the wild sockeye salmon fillets pair well with the creamy, citrusy yogurt drizzle. For a heartier meal, a warm, flavourful Lentil Curry Bowl with Baked Salmon will hit the spot.
Sandwich a salmon burger between a classic brioche bun. Add spicy arugula dressed in lemon and olive oil, or butter lettuce tossed in olive oil, salt and pepper. You want the flavours of the wild sockeye patty to shine through the dish. Top it with homemade chutney or barbeque sauce. The fruity chutney will complement the salmon’s flavour, or you can use a smokey barbeque sauce that won’t overwhelm your burger.
Sliced smoked salmon is versatile and can be enjoyed a variety of ways. Try the Fried Egg and Smoked Salmon Blini for a fusion of Russian and Canadian flavours, a great choice for breakfast or brunch — the protein in sockeye salmon will set you up for a successful day. Or, try serving it on a charcuterie board for your next soiree.
