Apple crisp has evolved over the years to incorporate different fruits and flavours — think Saskatoon berries, cranberries or caramel, to name a few. This classic recipe, originally printed in Co-op Food Fun the Step by Step Cook Book for Boys and Girls in 1963, has been pulled from the archives. Enjoy this easy throwback recipe!
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease an 8-inch square cake pan.
- Peel apples with a peeler. Cut into 4 pieces (quarters) and remove the core. Slice the apples into thin slices. Spread evenly around your greased pan.
- Measure rolled oats, flour and sugar into the bowl. Add butter and mix in with your fingers until the mixture is crumbly.
- Sprinkle the mixture over the apples.
- Bake in a preheated oven for 30 minutes.
- Serve warm with a scoop of ice cream.
NOTE: for the apples you may substitute either 4 cups of blueberries or 4 cups of cherries.
