Care+ Enhanced Services: a path to better health

Co-op Pharmacists are dedicated to caring for our communities in Western Canada. Being among the most trusted health care professionals, pharmacists have been recognized as the medication experts of the health care team. However, the pharmacist's traditional role is expanding, and is no longer simply dispensing prescription medications.

Pharmacists are accessible, knowledgeable and highly trusted. Care+ Enhanced Services represent the wide range of professional services Co-op Pharmacists offer, along with a commitment to providing trusted care and support to you and your family:

Minor Ailments Prescribing

Minor ailments are conditions that you can look after yourself and may not require a doctor’s visit. They can also be self-limiting, only lasting for a short time. Pharmacists can assess, diagnose, prescribe and initiate medication therapy for common ailments and conditions in many provinces.

Flu Shots

The flu vaccine is a safe, effective way to help people stay healthy, prevent illness and save lives. Early vaccination means you are better protected. Co-op Pharmacists conveniently offer flu shots through scheduled appointments, and in some cases, on a walk-in basis.

Vaccinations

Vaccination not only protects individuals, but others in the community by reducing the spread of preventable diseases. Co-op Pharmacists can conveniently administer most common vaccinations, including COVID-19, shingles, pneumonia, HPV and chickenpox vaccines.

Travel Health Consultations

Travel medicine focuses on maintaining the health and well-being of travellers. Pharmacists in many provinces can offer pre-travel advice and vaccinations for individuals travelling abroad. Pharmacists can also provide information on food and water safety, malaria prevention, altitude sickness, vaccine information, and tips for staying healthy during your travels.

Chronic Disease Management

As medication experts, pharmacists occupy an impactful role on the front lines of chronic disease management and intervention. Pharmacists are trained in clinical techniques, including educating patients to address underlying risks, providing medication regimen management, immunizations, and performing targeted counseling using motivational interviewing techniques.

Over-the-Counter Medication Consultations

Consulting with your pharmacist when you require an over-the-counter medication helps you to select the best medication for you. It also helps to avoid harmful effects caused by drug interactions with your medication therapy or the worsening of your medical conditions.

Smoking Cessation

Your pharmacist can help you assess your level of nicotine dependence and give you recommendations on how best to approach your quit attempt. They can give you detailed information on the various products available to help you quit smoking, many of which are available without a prescription. Depending on your location, pharmacists are able to prescribe medications for smoking cessation. Pharmacists trained in smoking cessation offer private and customized counselling programs to provide more in-depth support and longer-term follow-up.

Order and Interpret Lab Tests

In some jurisdictions, pharmacists are permitted to order, access, use and interpret medical laboratory tests for the purposes of drug therapy management.

Co-op Pharmacists are here for you. Care+ Enhanced Services represent many of the ways pharmacists can help put you on the path to better health.
