Quite common in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean diets, hummus is a delicious dip that can be used in so many recipes. And now, Co-op members and customers can find a variety that’s made in Western Canada with chickpeas grown in Saskatchewan: Co-op Gold Pure Hummus.

Hummus and harmonies
Co-op sources chickpeas, the main ingredient in hummus, from Hunter Farms in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan. The Hunter family works closely with agricultural experts at Pioneer Co-op to grow their crops.
“It’s just wonderful to know that we’re able to partner with Co-op to take the food that we’re growing here on the farm, and it’s actually being made into food that is being consumed by people all over the place,” said J.J. Hunter, who knows about appealing to a wide audience. In addition to farming, he and his four younger brothers make up the popular country act The Hunter Brothers.
A versatile snack
Ready to try this Sask-made snack? Co-op Gold Pure Hummus is available in eight fantastic flavours: Traditional, Garlic, Garlic Dill, Red Pepper, Dill Pickle, Spicy Dill Pickle, Olive Tapenade and Caramelized Onion.

Born and Raised in Saskatchewan
Not only is this local hummus healthy and delicious, it’s also a source of pride for the Hunter family.
“I think one of the most special times is when we took our kids to the Co-op and we got hummus and we said, ‘This is from the crops that we grew right on our farm,’” J.J. told us.
With a creamy texture and just the right squeeze of lemon, this preservative-free hummus is as close to homemade as you can get. Find it at your local Co-op Food Store.
