At Co-op, finding delicious new products from across Western Canada is something we take pride in. And when we’re able to deliver a new dessert that everybody can enjoy, it’s something to celebrate!


Co-op has teamed up with Mario’s Gelati in Vancouver, B.C., to bring you cool, sweet and creamy plant-based desserts. In the desserts, chickpeas create a silky-smooth base to host luxurious flavour combinations. You can find three flavours in the freezer at your local Co-op Food Store: Raspberry Truffle, Salted Caramel with Chocolatey Flakes or Cookies n’ Kreem.

These innovative desserts are the product of years of experience making premium authentic Italian gelato. It’s the first frozen snack of its kind in Canada: cracking the chickpea code with a specific formula and specialized, custom-built equipment has created a texture that’s very similar to ice cream.

With this unique technique, the team at Mario’s Gelati have made a frozen treat that’s suitable for dessert lovers of all stripes, whether they’re vegan, have allergies or dietary restrictions or just want to incorporate more plant-based products into their lives.
